16-year-old killed in traffic accident with road grader

No one should have to go through the death of a child. It's a tragic loss that comes far too soon. Pedestrian accidents often involve children, some due to children not understanding the risks, while others are caused by dangerous drivers on the roads.

In this case, the police are investigating to find out just what happened to result in a child's death. A boy was killed in a road grader collision, according to a Mar. 10 report. Now, his mother is trying to understand what happened and wants to know that the driver will be held accountable.

Her 16-year-old son had been walking near the school that day when he was struck by the vehicle. It was around 2:40 p.m. when the vehicle hit him while heading north on Southwest Ninth. The teen was rushed to the hospital but suffered fatal wounds from the collision, which is slightly inconsistent with witness reports.

It's believed that the woman's son, older brother and friend had been walking to a gas station that was across from the high school they attended when the crash occurred. Two of the boys stopped at the median, while the third continued on. It's not clear if the driver didn't see the child, but police are still investigating the incident.

Witnesses have claimed that the driver had been moving below the speed limit. It's not clear why the driver would not have seen or had time to slow for the teen. While the police have stated that they don't believe they'll press charges, the boy's mother feels they are necessary in this case.

If your child is hurt in a car accident while walking as a pedestrian, you can get help, too. There is the potential to seek a claim against a driver, so your child can get the help he or she needs to recover.
