34-year-old woman left in critical condition following crash

Pedestrian accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. One second, you may be crossing a street at a crosswalk, recognizing the familiar "walk" sign blinking, and the next thing you know you could be waking up in the hospital. Serious accidents take place all the time, and with distractions like texting and mobile phones easily available for drivers, pedestrians are at an ever-greater risk.

A July 28 report about a woman who was injured in a pedestrian versus pickup truck accident shows why walking can be incredibly dangerous for people, even in residential or neighborhood areas. The woman was crossing the street at 44th and Urbandale Avenue at around 3:30 in the morning when a truck being driven by a man from Beaverdale struck her.

The driver, a 56-year-old man, stayed at the scene and called police. The police have said that because he stayed at the scene, there's no chance of hit-and-run charges or charges for failing to provide aid. Police have also said that when accidents are simply that, then there is a lower chance of any charges at all. The investigation team is still working to determine what caused the 34-year-old woman not to be seen in the roadway.

One resident, who was present because the woman was struck outside her home, said that the roads were pretty dark, even though there are street lights in the vicinity. The 34-year-old woman allegedly lives just a few blocks away from the scene. She had to be rushed to the local Methodist Hospital for surgery. She was reportedly in critical condition following the crash.
