Iowa trooper injured in multicar accident

On March 14, an accident on Interstate 80 led to the injury of an Iowa state trooper. The accident was actually two separate crashes; officials were responding to the first car accident when a 45-year-old truck driver rear-ended one of the patrol cars that had a trooper inside and narrowly missed other officers.

Prior to the accident, the trooper and a Johnson County deputy were conversing with each other next to the patrol car. The flow of traffic on the interstate had slowed and moved to the far lane to avoid the initial crash scene. However, it was reported that the driver of a semi failed to slow down enough before hitting the truck in front of him. The truck was pushed into the crash scene, and a dash board camera showed the vehicle as it clipped the patrol car and narrowly missed the deputy.

The trooper inside the patrol car only suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and released soon after. It was not reported if the truck driver also suffered any injuries from the accident. The 49-year-old driver of the semi was charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle. In instances like these, authorities are asking that drivers pay extra attention around crash sites and focus on the road ahead.

Any time an individual is injured in an accident, they may be eligible for compensation for medical care costs, property damage and lost wages. In this case, although the trooper was not seriously injured from the crash, he may still wish to file a personal injury claim in order to receive reimbursement for medical expenses he may have acquired when he was taken to the hospital.
