Motorcycle crash results in amputation for 33-year-old man

When alcohol is involved, accidents can be messy. Speeding, swerving and making bad judgment calls can result in someone getting seriously hurt. Sometimes it can be hard to see who is at fault for an accident, or both parties may share the fault to a degree. If you're in an accident where you are struck or are in an accident because of odd driving behaviors, it's important that you speak with your attorney about the possibility of making a claim.

Here's an interesting case out of Iowa that shows how complicated multi-vehicle crashes can get. According to the news, a motorcyclist lost his leg in an accident when he rear-ended a car with his bike, but it's not as clear-cut as to say that it was his fault. The crash took place near the Iowa State Fairgrounds at around 10:12 p.m., so it was dark outside at the time, and the other driver was not completely unable to take the blame.

The police who went to the scene reported that the 33-year-old man collided with the vehicle so intensely that it broke the car's rear axle, so he may have been speeding or the other driver may have slammed on her brakes. While there has been no exact reason for the crash given since it is still under investigation, the driver of the car, a 24-year-old woman, has been arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence.

The motorcyclist may also be charged with a citation, according to police. So far, he is still in the hospital.
