Drunk driver sentenced after woman dies in collision

As someone who has lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident or someone who has faced the pain and suffering of being struck by a vehicle, you know how important it is for drivers to take responsibility and to drive safely. Taking their eyes off the roads, speeding, drinking and driving, or even driving when fatigued can quickly result in injuries or fatalities.

After a driver hits someone, an investigation has to take place to find out the cause. If the driver violated a law, a civil and criminal lawsuit may both be filed against the driver. That's what happened in this case against a young man who struck and killed a woman. The lawsuit you file could be a civil lawsuit, or you may be able to make a claim directly with the person's insurance company.

A driver involved in a drunk driving collision has now been sentenced following the death of a pedestrian. According to a report from April 5, the man, who is from western Iowa, hit the pedestrian on the Fourth of July. He recently pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide while intoxicated.

The 26-year-old man struck a 50-year-old woman at around 11:15 p.m. on Highway 127. She may have been walking home from watching a band when she was struck, according to friends and family. Although the woman had been walking around the highway, it was the driver who was found to be at fault; he told officers that he had 15 to 17 drinks less than six hours before the accident took place.
