How can motorcyclists be safer on the roads?

Motorcycle safety is important at any time of year, because it can protect you and keep you out of trouble with other drivers. Many times accidents are caused by other drivers who make mistakes. Knowing how to recognize dangerous or otherwise negligent drivers could save your life.

If you're working with your attorney to make a claim for a motorcycle accident, you should know that motorcycle deaths are on the rise, along with injuries. Drivers aren't being safer in a majority of cases; in fact, motorcycle-related deaths have increased by 55 percent since 2000, with 4,502 people killed in 2010. This is despite added efforts throughout the nation to bring down the number of motorcycle accidents and fatalities overall.

Prevention is the best method for protecting riders. Riders must look for vehicles that could pull out in front of them, like drivers pulling out of parking lots on the right side of the road who may try to turn left into traffic. Drivers who turn left into traffic can cause a collision if they pull out in front of a motorcyclist.

Motorcyclists can be safer by wearing helmets. All ages can be injured or killed in accidents, and it's been shown that in 2010, over half of the people killed in accidents were over the age of 40. Whether you're riding alone or with someone else, helmets can protect you if you're in a collision. You don't have the protection of a car's frame or airbags, so this could be one of the only methods you can use to protect yourself from deadly injuries.
