Reckless driver collides with multiple vehicles in Iowa

Truck and car accidents are both incredibly dangerous, especially in the winter when vehicles can spin out of control suddenly and unexpectedly. In some cases, drivers are being completely reckless and putting you at risk. This is an example of that kind of situation.

According to a Feb. 10 report, the Linn County deputies in Iowa were trying to stop a vehicle on Highway 13 at around 3:14 p.m. The person inside the vehicle was identified as not being allowed to drive in the state, and police tried to pull the vehicle over. Unfortunately, this driver decided to continue driving, causing the police to begin a pursuit. This chase entered an area with heavier traffic as it came onto 1st Street SW near Riverside Park.

There, the vehicle, which was already traveling recklessly and speeding, collided with a pickup truck and a school bus for the Cedar Rapids Community School District. Most people would assume that this is where the chase would end; hitting one vehicle is bad enough, but the driver had also struck a bus of school children.

The driver got out of his vehicle and tried to flee, though. The then-identified 46-year-old man had reportedly had his license withdrawn 18 times in the past and had been on the roads again. During this crash, he caused a woman and her child to be injured, and he damaged several vehicles, the reports stated.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department has said that charges are pending against the man for his actions. Fortunately, those on the bus were not injured and the two people who were suffered only non-life threatening injuries. The crash could have been much worse. However, even non-life threatening injuries can have substantial medical bills. Compensation may be sought from drivers who refuse to obey the law and cause injuries.
