Victim of man under the influence comes forward in Iowa

If you're the victim of someone who is now facing a DUI charge in Iowa, then you may want to know what is being done to keep them off the roads and away from other people they could hurt. Even if the person hasn't affected you directly in the past, if he has a history of a DUI, then there may be additional charges police can place to remove them from the roadways more permanently.

A man in Iowa is now facing a number of charges after being accused of rolling his car while he was under the influence of alcohol and then assaulting a person at a local bar. This case is a good indication of how a charge or past conviction can come back to haunt a person and influence further sentencing; since the two events took place within three months of one another, the history of drunken behavior has been linked to the second event.

According to the story, the man initially rolled his own vehicle in Iowa City at around 11:45 p.m. on May 11. Police responded and found him inside the vehicle. At that time, he was wounded, but he continued to act combative, their reports stated. His BAC was recorded as being .275, which is over three times the legal limit.

The first situation didn't result in anyone else being injured, but the man allegedly then assaulted another person over alcohol at a local bar a few months later. After confronting the alleged victim, the man then punched him in the face, reports claim. The complaint filed said that the victim suffered from a bloody nose and a cut on his nose from the attack.

As a victim of someone struggling with alcohol abuse or misuse, you have rights. In cases like this, there are only so many times a person can get away with drinking and putting others in danger. You may be able to file a civil lawsuit to help keep yourself and others safe from this negligent party in the future.
