NHTSA ends Jeep fire probe, Chrysler to proceed with recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed an investigation into older Jeep Cherokees and Libertys concerning a potential fire hazard in the event of an accident. The agency says it has confidence in the plan that Chrysler Group has developed to repair the issue. Closing the investigation allows the automaker to proceed with a recall in Iowa and elsewhere.

Ford recalls 395 Explorer SUVs

Iowa residents who own a Ford Explorer SUV should be aware of a recent recall. Ford Motor Corporation announced a recall on several 2011 and 2012 Ford Explorer SUVs. The recall includes 395 Explorers and was necessitated by a possible faulty part installed during servicing performed after Sept. 1, 2013. The problem relates to the steering wheel, which may lock up if the vehicle experiences any software malfunctions. Ford is encouraging any service centers that may have installed the suspect part to contact their affected customers to have them return for the issue to be fixed. All recalled vehicles brought in by their owners will receive installation of new steering gear free of charge.

Single vehicular rollover accident claims 5 men's lives

A highway accident in Iowa lead to the death of five men on the night of Jan. 10. Authorities suspect that speeding and consuming alcohol caused the single-car rollover crash. A 29-year-old man was heading east on Interstate 80 in a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro carrying four passengers when it crossed the median and ended up on the other side of the highway. After crossing the westbound lanes, the car reportedly rolled almost one quarter of a mile off the highway, according to a state patrol officer. The car came to rest in a field on the north side of the Interstate.

Lincoln issues transmission sensor recall for MKZ sedans

Iowa residents may be aware of a recent recall of 2013 - 14 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid sedans. At this time, Ford has recalled a total of 7,153 vehicles for trouble associated with the transmission's range sensor. The cars may shift into gear without releasing the brake, which can potentially cause serious car accidents.

Car accident sends several to hospital

A recent car accident in Iowa sent several people to the hospital. According to reports, the accident occurred in Black Hawk County when a 28-year-old man ran a stop sign and hit a car driven by a 25-year-old woman. The woman's vehicle was pushed into a ditch, rolled over and came to rest in a field.
