Nissan NV200s may be faulty

Iowa drivers may like to know that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced in early December that some 2,529 Nissan NV200s were being recalled because their engines could stall while driving. The NHTSA said that defective wiring harnesses that linked the battery fuses to other electrical components might wear out in the middle of normal operation; this, in turn, could result in fuel pumps cutting engines off and cause motorists to stall or get into car accidents.

The affected vehicles were those that left the factory between Feb. 6, 2013 and Aug. 2, 2013. Although a spokesperson for the automaker said that these cars could be fixed by Nissan auto dealers beginning in the middle of December, the company did not specify whether other NV200s might also experience the same potentially hazardous faults.

Dealers were instructed to move the wiring away from surfaces that could short out the fuel pump fuses before covering the affected components with a protective material. The firm also released a toll-free number that owners could call if they wanted information.

Though some vehicle defects are relatively harmless, others can result in sudden accidents that take motorists by surprise. When these incidents cause catastrophic injuries or severe property damage, it may be extremely difficult for victims to prove that their defective vehicle components were at fault after the fact. In addition, automakers may not even release recall info until well after serious collisions take place. Attorneys may be able to help these individuals by keeping tabs on the particulars of their accidents and pursuing compensation from manufacturers.
