Ford Motor Company announces three new recalls

Some Ford owners in Iowa could be interested in this story regarding recent vehicle recalls the car manufacturer has issued. Three separate Ford recalls are the latest in a string of automaker recalls this year. Most of the other major automakers, a list that includes Honda, GM, Chrysler, Toyota and Nissan, periodically announce recalls. However, Ford prefers to offer a response to postings on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website instead of announcing a recall.

The first recall involves 140,000 2013 Escape crossovers due to 13 fires to date in the 1.6-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, according to reports from Ford that were posted on Nov. 26 on the NHTSA website. In addition, approximately 21,000 vehicles are involved in a Canadian recall.

Another posting on the website stated that the second recall involved the same year and model but only includes 9,500 vehicles that were previously recalled in 2012 for a fuel leak repair, which may have been done incorrectly. This recall also includes approximately 2,300 vehicles from other export markets, including Canada. According to an email from the Ford spokesperson, 7,300 of the 2013-14 Lincoln MKZ Hybrids are being recalled. This third recall involves the vehicles' automatic transmissions, which could allow shifting out of the park gear without depressing the brake pedal.

Although Ford may be calling these recalls voluntary, they have no alternative but to notify the NHTSA of a planned recall within five business days of discovering a safety issue. Car accidents could occur due to a vehicle being defective. Individuals and families who have been affected by an accident could be entitled to compensation through litigation for injuries, medical expenses, lost income or loss of a loved one. A personal injury attorney may be able to help those suffering obtain a settlement by negotiating with insurance companies and car manufacturers.
