Truck accident in Iowa injures 2

A semi rear-ended a pickup truck, injuring two people on the morning of Nov. 13 near Rudd on the Avenue of the Saints. The driver and a passenger from the pickup truck were taken by ambulance to a local medical center.

The truck accident occurred at the intersection of County Road B30 and the Avenue of the Saints at 8:48 a.m. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the semi struck the pickup truck as it slowed to make a right turn. The semi-truck driver was cited for failure to stop within a safe assured distance.

Semi-trucks pose a hazard to smaller vehicles on the road. Large trucks are difficult to stop and require a greater stopping distance than passenger vehicles. When a passenger car is involved in a collision with a semi-truck, the occupants in the car are at risk for serious injuries or death.

If someone is seriously injured in an accident with a large commercial vehicle, the driver and the company that owns the truck may both be liable to pay financial compensation to the victims. An Iowa personal injury lawyer may work on behalf of an accident victim to find all potentially liable parties including the driver, parent company, maintenance workers and the truck's manufacturer.

If it is clear that the semi-truck driver or the parent company is at fault in an accident, there is a possibility that the matter may be settled out of court. On the other hand, if the company attempts to deny any liability, it might be necessary to bring the case before a jury in civil court. If the jury agrees that the driver or parent company is responsible for the accident, it may award substantial compensation to the plaintiff.
