Trucking company shut down for 'flagrant' safety violations

People who do not drive a commercial-sized vehicle for a living may not realize just how dangerous these vehicles can be. And for the most part, people may not think that laws related to the trucking industry affect them that much. This can all change very quickly if a person is injured in a truck accident in Iowa

Often times, trucking accidents are the result of a dangerous or negligent truck driver or trucking owner who fails to comply with trucking safety standards. Federal and state regulations are in place to make sure that trucks are operated and maintained safely and appropriately, but there are many folks who do not comply with these rules. One such trucking company was recently shut down after authorities determined that they were an imminent hazard to the public.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, GD Cars is a company that was in violation of so many trucking regulations that they had to issue an out-of-service order to the company to get their trucks off the road. Their actions put other people in serious danger of getting injured in an accident because of unsafe equipment or an unsafe driver.

GD Cars reportedly failed to comply with many requirements regarding truck maintenance. Multiple vehicles had been taken off the road because of serious safety deficiencies that were identified by authorities. The company repeatedly and consistently failed to have their vehicles properly repaired, maintained and inspected.

Not only were the vehicles unsafe, but so were GD Cars truck drivers. The FMCSA stated that drivers were repeatedly in violation of hours-of-service regulations, were not subjected to proper drug and alcohol testing and often did not even have the required commercial driver's license to operate the trucks in the first place.

Because of these and other violations of federal and state trucking regulations, the company was ordered off the road. However, not all unsafe vehicles and drivers are pulled off the road in time to prevent a serious accident. When an accident involves a semi truck, it can be crucial for victims to work with an attorney who can determine whether or not the crash was due, at least in part, to a trucking violation.
